My first angelic encounter was in early childhood.  My memory’s never been the greatest, but I’m pretty sure I was seven years old.

Growing up in the country was magical.  There were meadows, fields and woods to explore.  One day, I caused a town wide panic when I suddenly disappeared.  Family, neighbors and friends launched a search.  I was nowhere to be found.

I was lost in the woods behind our house. What had begun as an adventure became a frightening ordeal.  The harder I tried to find my way home, the more lost I became.  The day’s light was waning and I dearly did not want to spend the night in the forest, when I saw a faint glimmer of light ahead.

It was an angel.  As tall and magnificent as the trees, and totally transparent.  It reached a hand reached down and silently led me from the verdant darkness to an open field on the other side of town, where I was spotted by folks who were searching for me.

Later that year, my mother was visiting Charlie Childs of the Childs Gallery.  The Childs were friends of my parents.  Mom was aimlessly looking through the collections when she spied a small lithograph of an angel leading a small child that resembled me through the woods.  When she asked Charlie for information about the picture he said he’d never seen it before, and asked mom to show him where she had found it.

Imagine both of their surprise when after she took him to where she had discovered the picture, and he said earlier that day, he had unpacked a new shipment on that very spot and there had been no angel picture!  Convinced this piece of art was Heaven sent, he gave it to her as a gift for me.

It gets better.  When mom brought the picture home, I immediately exclaimed that it was “my angel”.  I recognized the face and hands.  The face was feminine beauty itself, and the hands were large and masculine.  This picture is my prized possession.

I’ve had two other angelic encounters over the years.  When you’re in contact with the angelic realm, strangely wonderful things happen.

A couple of days ago, I was sitting in my car crying.  Something had happened that had left me feeling bereft of all comfort.  A white van pulled in alongside my car and a beautiful oriental woman and her son got out.  She asked if I was okay.  I was crying so hard that I could barely get my replies out.  We three talked for a while and I shared my story with her.  She looked me deeply in the eyes and said:  “It’s going to be alright.  I know this, and you must too.”  She said this several times, and the touch of her hand on my arm brought peace to my soul.  The touch was familiar and I had the same physical sensation that I’ve had the other times I’ve met an angel.  It feels as if this perfect energy is pouring into you through the contact.  There is nothing like it.

Later, she brought back cooked sushi rice for Ling to help with her diarrhea, and a bowl of penne with homemade pesto sauce for me.  Both dishes were still warm from the stove and the pesto smelled like Heaven itself!  Knowing that it had been made with love, I couldn’t wait to indulge in the creamy deliciousness.

We never got to eat this divine food.  It was stolen from the roof of my car while I was in the restroom.  I had left it outside of the car because my dear fur friend likes to eat through things to get to food.  It never occurred to me that someone would steal a small parcel of food from the roof of a car in a public park with hoards of people.  My mistake!

It didn’t matter though, because we had already been fed in our hearts by the gesture of love and compassion.  In our darkest hour, Providence had reached out to us.  Have you ever encountered an angel?  I would be honored if you’d share the story here.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
